Hey guys. How was the weekend? Lol, rehearsals right? Chillax, you finna gonna feel "vibes on vibes" next weekend.... Oops, sorry, Examsssss. Leemawuuu. Anyway, Cinema Spices is here again and this week we are going to try as much as possible to take you down the long road of history. Back to 1969. Yessssss. We are going to be looking at an historical blockbuster dared to be termed "The Movie of 2021", JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH.

The film is directed and produced by SHAKA KING who wrote the screenplay with Will Berson, based on true events. Released on the 12th of February, 2021. Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures of course. This movie cost a whooping sum of $26 Million Dollars Budget and $7 Million Dollars Box Office. Wow! Was it worth it? Let's see.

SPOILER ALERT∆∆∆

SUMMARY

FBI informant William O'Neal infiltrates the Illinois Black Panther Party and is tasked with keeping tabs on their charismatic leader, Chairman Fred Hampton. A career thief, O'Neal revels in the danger of manipulating both his comrades and his handler, Special Agent Roy Mitchell. Hampton's political prowess grows just as he's falling in love with fellow revolutionary Deborah Johnson. Meanwhile, a battle wages for O'Neal's soul. Will he align with the forces of good? Or subdue Hampton and The Panthers by any means, as FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover commands?

Now even though the rating "The Movie of year 2021" was far-fetched considering the fact that this movie was produced at the first half of the year, February, the movie surely earned that title. Starting from the Cinematography, to the Organized realistic chaos, to the costumes, then the DIALOGUE!!!!!!! I meannnnn, it was the Dialogue for me. It could convince you that you have what it takes to save Nigeria at the moment. Whatttttt!!!

ACTING: Lol... The Acting was so good that when the first draft of the movie was first premiered in 1999, the actual Williams Bill O'Neal Committed suicide. Like, you can't watch this movie without getting angry/agitated. You will subconsciously wish there was something you can do to help. That's the power of convinceable Acting. Everything was realistic from the Chaos to the Love Story. Deborah Johnson (Dominique Fishback) was amazingly beautiful to watch. After seeing her in Project Power, one could never imagine she would take up such a role and do justice to it. Wellll, the only problem in the Acting was Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya). Daniel Kaluuya is originally a British Man. Casting him for a Revolutionary Black American movie was not a bad idea but would have been better if they had worked more on his accent and adlibs more. He struggled to talk like a Black American and also to use the adlibs like "Nigga". From Black Panther to Judas and the Black Messiah, Daniel Kaluuya is yet to do total justice to his character, for me oo. Maybe because of the kind of roles he's being casted for though cause apart from that, his Acting is beautiful. But I still feel that Oscar Award would have gone to Lakeieth Stanfield (Williams Bill O'Neal) instead of Daniel Kaluuya.

THEME: This historical blockbuster centered on the themes of Revolution and Betrayal. But there were other sub-themes like, Mass Inhumanity against Man, Injustice, Greed, Motherly Love, Racism, Love etc.

SUSPENSE: This part just makes me laugh because yes, based on the fact that it's an historical script, we know how it's going to end, we know what would happen but it still kept us at the edge of our seats. SHAKA KING how did you do it???

SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF: Yes, we may have read about this story before, Fred Hampton was assassinated 4th December, 1969, exactly 20months after the last "Black Messiah" Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was killed which caused havoc and mass protests in the United States through out the 1970's. But this movie not just confirmed what we read in the books but made us actually belief it. If care is not taken, after watching this movie, you'll contemplate about traveling to the States.

Well with all said and done, I hope it's only fair I rate this movie an 8/10. You don't agree with me? Well you know you are free to rate it yourself below. Bye for now. Go and read ooo.
