Nor go man house, una nor dey hear! Oh sorry.
Hi guyssssssssssssssssss(yes plus the s). Welcome to another episode of "Cinema Spies" with Stage Voice. Mannnnn it's been over a Semester, what?! I have missed you guys. (you're supposed to say "I missed you too"). Well, RECAP! Here we take our time to examine movies of all genres, pointing out the good, the bad and the ugly and of course rate the movie. (all those Oyibo mean say we dey review film).
So today we are going to take you on a Journey of betrayal, endurance, pain, love (plus plenty Awww) and mind-blowing plot twists with Tope Oshin's "HERE LOVE LIES"
SPOILER ALERT!!!⚠️
Single Mother and travel blogger, Amanda (Tope Oshin), finds more than romance when she takes a chance to meet a social media suitor in New York City.
Here Love Lies is a blend of Family Drama, Romcom and Thriller (3 in one). Now did Tope Oshin score a 10/10 blending these three genres in one movie?
ACTING: Hmmm (I actually sighed because I don't know where to start). Honestly I always thought Directing a Movie and being the Main Cast was easy to execute on Screen, like it won't affect anything. Here, Tope Oshin was the Executive Producer, Director, Assistant Script-writer and of course the Main Cast. Should I say that's what affected her acting? Course for the most part, I sympathized with "Young Amanda" than the older Amanda. Then I don't get that female detective like did she learn how to fight in Police school? The fighting scenes where low-budget Jackie Chan scenes. Nora (Angel Unigwe) TOTALLY delivered mannn. For the most part, the 40% poor acting gave room for Nollywood legends, Sam Dede and Tina Mba to steal the show even though they appeared in just about five scenes.
THEMES: Considering the three genres submerged in one movie, Here Love Lies has myriads of Themes ranging from Betrayal, Love, Parental Instability, Irresponsibility, Desperation, Jealousy, Self-Will, Determination, Mental Instability, Depression, the list is endless but my problem with these themes is the fact that A LOT of them were left unresolved at the end.
SUSPENSE: Now this is the part. I mean it was as if Tope Oshin sat her team and said "I want to create a movie with CRAZY suspense", so they focused more on the suspense to the detriment of other parts of the production. They TOTALLY killed this part like whattt!! It was a rollercoaster of emotions constantly keeping you at the edge of your seat. The plot twists were mind blowing, especially when it got to the "thriller part" of the movie. Although, towards the end, the fighting scenes were over stretched which killed the suspense level.
SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF: A blog described this movie as "a poor attempt to discourage women from dating people they meet online". Well I watched the movie looking for the "poor" in the "attempt". Like how? Doesn't it happen? Don't we hear of Women that go missing after meeting someone they just met online? Here Love Lies believability level was top notch abeg. No fairytale, No Sugar coating, It happens in real life just as it was depicted in the movie.
Well with these few points of mine, would you agree with me to rate this movie a 5/10? You don't agree? You sure know I will let you rate it yourself, just give your rating in the comment section below. Bye for now.

8/10
