DASA ALUMNI OF THE WEEK
Goodness: Good evening. GOD bless you. I'm Goodness Akintunde.
Stage Voice: Welcome Goooodness. So while being an undergraduate, what did you major in and why you chose it?
Goodness: Acting. Well, GOD led me to it and also over the years as an undergraduate, I had picked up training in that aspect more.
Stage Voice: That's great.
Stage Voice: Agba actor
Stage Voice: So while being an undergraduate, was there any position you occupied in DASA?
Goodness: I worked as a member of Stage Voice throughout and in my finals. I was elected Chief Editor of the same group
Stage Voice: Ọmọ you be ogaaa oo
Stage Voice: Na your footsteps I dey follow now oo
Goodness: Na GOD dey run am
Goodness: GOD will help you sir
Stage Voice: Amen ooo my ogaaa. Why did you decide to join? Was there anything you wanted to change?
Goodness: I joined because I loved to write. I still do. And I wanted to see dynamism in writing and by GOD's grace, I was able to achieve that to a large extent. And yes, by GOD's grace, we did a lot of great things. It was during my time that we launched the First DASA Magazine as well. For one, I changed the question format and encouraged coloured printing. Also as Chief Editor, I made sure to offer my candid advice and support.
Stage Voice: See impacts. This is so amazing. Na your step we still dey follow nowww
Goodness: All glory to GOD. It isn't perfect but I am surging ahead for more.
[Goodness: Na GOD make you follow oo
Stage Voice: That's great
Stage Voice: We dey follow God through you
Goodness: I like the sound of that🤗
Stage Voice: 🤩So how did you feel when you graduated?
Goodness: Well, I felt NOTHING at first. And then challenged to take up the new phase with GOD. It sure has its perks but the reality is stark and blunt. But I'm trusting GOD each day to see me through.
Stage Voice: Hmmm. God will help us all. Na only Him fit help us.
Goodness: Yes o. ONLY GOD
Stage Voice: So being a graduate, how has the outside world been? Tough? Soft?
Goodness: I'll use the word "challenging" especially given the fact that I'm an orphan but GOD has been faithful. I'm taking it one step at a time. A day with the LORD so I'll say pretty much moving.
Stage Voice: God is always there to help us. I am rooting for you Goodnessss
Goodness: Thank you Boss 🤭
Stage Voice: While being an undergraduate, did you have a side hustle or you were focused on being the SOYINKA?
Goodness: I was and still am a baker and caterer. I'm also a private chef and a dietitian/Nutritionist.
Stage Voice: Only youuu. God when. Shey I will not learn this skill bayii?
Goodness: 😅😅😅 Oya come OOO
Stage Voice: No problem I go visit you. How were you able to cope with both – business and academics?
Goodness: Two things: Priority and Boundary. GOD made me understand those two things. It was tough and fun at the same time. I had a priority - my academics- and that's why I was doing the business in the first place. To support me in academics and that helped me to draw healthy boundaries. I rejected jobs once I knew I had exams or school duties in sight or around the corner. It helped me not to get greedy by GOD's grace and stay focused on the job at hand - graduating as gracefully as I can and by GOD's grace, I'm one of the Upper Class in my set.
Also, it taught me how to be versatile and able to multitask successfully especially with all the responsibilities that came on later. But those two things, GOD helped me to learn in time, and it was a smooth walk in the park for me by GOD's grace.
Stage Voice: Priority and boundary. 🤲🤲🤲🤲 I really learnt from this. Teaches one how to be versatile and multitask.
Goodness: Abi now.
Stage Voice: So let's leave work... Hmmmmm. May God remove the catarrh in my nose as I am about to ask this question?
Goodness: 🤣😅🤣😅🤣😅
Stage Voice: Yes ooo
Stage Voice: Are you in a relationship?
Goodness: No. I'm single.
Stage Voice: Hmmm. Single and focused.
Goodness: I like that. Single and chasing GOD in success.
Stage Voice: Plenty plenty plenty
Stage Voice: So considering the countless number of unemployment graduates on the streets, do you think going to school is a panacea to poverty?
Goodness: Well, it depends on how you look at it. I believe that no matter what it is a person wants to do, he/she needs proper enlightenment, information and education in that aspect so as to be the best in that regard and Education to a good extent solves that. So, it's not the overall panacea to poverty but sure gives a person an edge over it. With education, you're armed with ideas, innovations and information and it helps you start up yourself, or position you in a place in life that only laziness and perhaps, village people can stop you from achieving great feats for oneself. There's alot education opens one to apart from the classrooms, you meet people who needs your interest in different calibre so I'll say Education is not the total panacea but a sure supplement to implementing success. It's left to YOU to make USE of WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN and it's really just like that everywhere in the world. You gotta go get it and get it done right!
Stage Voice: Even though it's not the panacea to poverty, it's important one makes use of the opportunity in school.
Stage Voice: Hmmm. I celebrate the wise one.
Goodness: Exactly. And see it as a leverage to creating something grand for oneself.
Goodness: All glory to GOD
Stage Voice: Thaaank youuu
Stage Voice: So being an actor or other area of the theatre, does it still pay in Nigeria?
Goodness: Sure. Depending on your dynamics and the other assets you can offer. You must be able to do more than one thing because the struggle and competition is unrelenting so you must remain dauntless and dynamic in your prowess and command of skills. The Rule is: KNOW MORE THAN JUST ONE!
Stage Voice: Know more than just one! I don hold that one for body.
Goodness: 😊 Nice
Stage Voice: If you were placed on a scholarship, given 2 million naira, a free house and a lot of foodstuffs, will you choose to further your education in OAU?
Goodness: Well yes. Given it's monthly upkeep😌. Sheybi it's to study and succeed? Leave that one to GOD. Plus the quality of education in OAU may be tough but she still offers the best by standard of many others. And once the major stress and worry is out of the way, I'm game!
Stage Voice: Wow 😂😂😂
Stage Voice: I am surprised you are giving in to this. Others would have rejected this offer.
Goodness: Why?
Stage Voice: OAU academic stress and wahala
Goodness: Well, it's personal for each individual but seriously with all of that out of the way, nothing is wrong with OAU or any other school for that matter.
Goodness: Well, I'd always choose quality over ease.
Stage Voice: It's actually personalll. Hmmmm.
Stage Voice: Thank youu
Goodness: You're most welcome sir
Stage Voice: So what did you miss about the department?
Goodness: The rehearsals.
Stage Voice: Alright. Any advice for drama students?
Goodness: Don't be afraid of representing GOD everytime. He always has a way of show up for you.
Stage Voice: Hmmm. Don't be afraid of representing God every time.
Stage Voice: Who do you want to give your shout-out to?
Goodness: My shout out goes to GOD, myself for keeping strong. My late mom and dad and everyone GOD has used for me in my journey till date. GOD bless you all.
Goodness: Thank you so much for having me. GOD bless you
