DASA FYB OF THE WEEK

Stage Voice: Hi, I am from Stage Voice,How are you doing.

Eddie: Hello.

Stage Voice: Can I pls get to know you?

Eddie: My name is Eddie, I’m a part 4 media major and a budding filmmaker.

Stage Voice: Great, pls can you share more light on what budding filmmaker mean or involve.

Eddie: Oh well, it practically means I’m a growing filmmaker. I aspire to be one of the big guns in the African film scene someday and so far I’m right on track with that. Asides being a film enthusiasts and a student of the theatre, in this regard I have begun what may seem as a career in the industry. Two short films in the past four years which I shot and produced, working with Nollywood production companies on set of a Netflix original and still about to proceed for another project, so yeah I’m a budding filmmaker.

Stage Voice: This is lovely, creative and very inspiring😊. So How is your final year project going.

Eddie: Oh boy! I never knew it would be this much of a head ache. My first issue was crafting the right story, I had to change my story twice, and to think of the fact that there’s very little support from the dept for media students is demoralizing, but we move. So far I’d say Alhamdulillah.

Stage Voice: πŸ™, It can be very difficult but we have to do  what we need to, How has been Dramatic Arts for you from your level 1 still now.

Eddie: Drama has been nothing short of interesting, I chose this department from the onset and I’m glad it turned out to be this way, a stepping stone to my goal, the knowledge of craft and creativity, the connections I’ve built, it’s been interesting and I’m grateful for it.

Stage Voice: Very interesting, What is your plan after school.

Eddie: Work work work my ass off. Lol on a lighter note, I’m just going to settle down and start learning from those who have been on the field, that way I can navigate through the film industry, that’s the dream, the Nollywood Dream.

Stage Voice: That is very great to hear that your plan is to add to the Nollywood teamπŸ‘, Do you have role model in the industry that you look up to.

Eddie: Tyler Perry is that one film maker who’s success, I admire a lot. However, Kunle Afolayan is my industry daddy and role model, he continues to inspire me.

Stage Voice: Two great personality in the industry. So What is that thing that drives you to be better version of yourself everytime.

Eddie: God made me, I’m an incredible creation and thus no better version of me, I’m just hustling to be what I was born to be. My driving force is my never ending quest for greatness.

Stage Voice: Wonderful, what was your best and most stressful experience been in Dramatic Arts.

Eddie: Initiation.

Stage Voice: Was the initation very helpful for the period you have spent in Dramatic Arts.

Eddie: The initiation will forever be helpful, if it continues and is done the way we met it. As you know, lecturers won’t teach you how to act, dance, sing, render lines etc. who instills this in you? Your senior colleagues. The names of Mechi, Dami, Joshua Peters, Esho, Stanley will always be engraved in our hearts (my mates) because these guys practically grounded us into the theatre, so it is for the other classes I’m sure, so honestly initially is what it is, the real deal.

Stage Voice: He has said it all ooh, initiation is very important and helpful, it can be very stressful but it will mould you for life. After from filmmaker what is that other thing you love doing.

Eddie: Well right now, I just live life, eat, play video games, watch movies and series, edit videos when I need to. Asides these nothing really concern me.

Stage Voice: You cannot come and stress yourself😁, If you had to pick another major, what will that be and why?

Eddie: Ah Omo. I’d have chosen playwriting. Since I do a bit of writing.

Stage Voice: So why did you pick media and focus on filmmaking.

Eddie: Because that’s what I’m trying to become, a film maker, not a writer. I write presently cause I haven’t met a writer who’s on the same creative scale as myself that can interpret my visions using the the perfect vocabulary to bring to life my thoughts.

Stage Voice: Hmmm very interesting, Do you have anyone that you have not worked with in any production and you wish to work with.

Eddie: In Pit? Quite a good number. Ajing, we almost worked together on my last short film but unfortunately we didn’t, Araba the man with the voice of a screen, I may finally have gotten the right role for him in my final year project, Emmanuel in part one is a good actor and a host of others.

Stage Voice: WowπŸ€—, This are three creative personality and many other. One last word for us.

Eddie: Stage voice, amazing work you guys do, someday we’d be having this interview again and by then It will be me talking about my blockbusters in the industry, until then keep up the good work πŸ™.

Stage Voice: Thank you so much, we will be happy to have you again and we can't wait to discuss your great works 😊.

Eddie: πŸ™

Stage Voice: Sorry we have come to the end of this interview, Any shout out.

Eddie: Shout out to Dr Toyin Ogundeji, that’s one DASAITE setting the standards and an amazing lecturer, we hope she wins the AMVCA, shout out to all DASAITSπŸ’ͺ.

Stage Voice: Yess ooohπŸ’ƒ, it was nice having you, enjoy your finally month in the Dramatic Arts and have a success project.
