FYB OF THE WEEK

Stage Voice: Hi, I'm from Stage Voice. Can we meet you please?

Saka Mary: I'm SAKA Mary Oreoluwa.... A final year student of the department of Dramatic arts

Stage Voice: Can you tell us your date of birth please?

Saka Mary: December 24.

Stage Voice: So tell us. How has it been from your 100lvl days till now?

Saka Mary: Its been fun and frustrating.... Frustrating in the sense that the people running the department did not make things easy at all... But in all I've learnt

Stage Voice: Hmmm. So why Dance?

Saka Mary: Hmm.... I've always liked dance even before I came to OAU... Even to the extent of joining dance productions more play productions... I was finally convinced when I saw Mfecane (a dance production) ... That production was my motivation....I give it up for Mechi

Stage Voice: Awww. What are the challenges you faced here as a Dancer/Choreographer?

Saka Mary: Hehehe.... Many challenges that I don't even know where to start from but everything still boils down to the bad state of the department.... Having to cope with lack of drums, low turn out of cast even when we are few days to the production, some drummers not willing to help, Orchestra, borrowing the departmental speaker, having to rent drums....lemme just end there because i'm still angry sef

Stage Voice: Lol....Sorry. So what are your plans after school?

Saka Mary: I would like to face my Paintings and textile designing very well, probably go to an art school for few months... If acting opportunities come, I would take it too

Stage Voice: Awww. We wish the best. Well, is there anything you wish could be different about the Department?

Saka Mary: Amen thank you..... I wish everything about the department could be different, there is nothing too good about this place, we are suffering here and we think its enjoyment.... Every single thing!.. I can't start mentioning, its quite obvious

Stage Voice: Wow! Okay so if you got a chance to go back in time and pick a University to study, would you pick OAU?

Saka Mary: I would still pick OAU it I was limited to picking Nigerian university

Stage Voice: Who was the best person you had worked with here in the department?

Saka Mary: Ermmmm.... It has to be Adedokun Peter.

Stage Voice: Awww. And who do you wish you had worked with here in the department?

Saka Mary: Nobody

Stage Voice: Okay. Did you consider majoring in any part of the Theatre at any point?

Saka Mary: Yes... I considered majoring in Costume and makeup but I realized I won't be able to cope.

Stage Voice: Oh... Didn't see that coming.

 Saka Mary: Yeah

Stage Voice: So this is out of the Blue but what's your opinion about a newly wedded couple living with their mother in-law?

Saka Mary: To me its dumb and foolish because that's where you start having problems with your marriage... Knowing fully well that mothers does not know how to mind their business so living with them will make matters worse

Stage Voice: And what if they insist?

Saka Mary: That's their problem then...

Stage Voice: Lol.... Apart from Theatre, what's your flip side?

Saka Mary: Fine and applied art

Stage Voice: Okayyyy. If you got a chance to meet your eleven year old self again, what advice would you give her?

Saka Mary: Talk back at anybody trying to push societal standard on you

Stage Voice: Chieeee. Is there anyone you look up to? Any role models?

Saka Mary: Nobody at the moment

Stage Voice: This notion/belief "The Industry is a jungle" how true is this to you?

Saka Mary: I've not been in the industry.. So I don't know how it is but with what I've heard... Its way too rough, no orderliness and seems as though everyone is confused.

Stage Voice: Okay. Sorry for intruding but are you Single, Searching or Ready to Mingle?

Saka Mary: I'm single

Stage Voice: Okay.. So who would you like to give a shout-out to?

Saka Mary: Anjola, dammy, doyin, white, phlex and to all the people that loves SAKA wholeheartedly

Stage Voice: Awww. Sadly we've come to the end of your interview. It was really nice having you here.

Saka Mary: It's my pleasure... Thank you
