TYRO OF THE WEEK
TYRO OF THE WEEK
STAGE VOICE: Hello!
This
is Stage voice. Can you kindly introduce yourself to us please.
DAVID: My name is Wabara David. I’m a first
year student of Dramatic arts. I’m a calm person on the surface but I can be
very expressive when I get comfortable.
I enjoy music a lot, Listening, watching people
make... I’m still thinking about making myself Just not ready yet. I love
seeing people happy, People I love, Random strangers and all of that.
STAGE VOICE:Okayyyy! Can you explain more about
you making music?
DAVID: Oh sureee.
Personally I feel like music is peace of mind,
it is freedom to me.
Music
gives me room to be expressive,bare,unfiltered... all of that.
Makes
me put out parts of me very few have seen or felt. Most important part of it
all is that it makes me “happy”.
STAGE VOICE: Interesting!
In our discussion earlier you made mention
that you don't like kids, do you mean you don't want kids of your own or just
kids in general?
DAVID:Ohh no no! I actually want kids.
STAGE VOICE: Explain to us please.
DAVID: I answered based on the emotions I
felt at that moment
I
had a child messing around me when I made the statement
So
do you get it?
STAGE VOICE: So you mean you don't like annoying
children?
DAVID: Exactly!
STAGE VOICE:Ehnehn now...so how was the
initiation process for you?
DAVID: Dark times.
Basically it was hell at first.
STAGE VOICE: I think I'll agree to that but
wetin e show you wey you call am hell.
DAVID: I didn’t know much about the
process before I came in. I just kept hearing “it is stressful” And I was like
“ how stressful can it be"? Then I came in and it was beyond anything I
had expected! There was so much to it. From the strenuous rehearsals, to the
unnecessarily harsh coordinators... it was a lot! I actually don’t know how I
was able to keep up till the end. I mean yeah my background(secondary school)
gave me a bit of an edge but there was more to it. There’s was this “thing”
that kept me going, call it SPIRIT OF THE THEATRE. Each time I felt myself
pulling back, it’d hold me back. I learnt a lot from my initiation process, from
my directors, coordinators and classmates. I learnt so much from them and I’m
grateful for meeting and having the privilege of working with most of them.
STAGE VOICE:Awwwwn! So nice of you to share.
Okay let's talk about you and getting closer
to people during and after initiation. What about that?
DAVID: It was hard.
Very
hard TBH. Probably because of my personality and background.
I
didn’t get to have a lot of “new people” around, so coming here and meeting so
many “new people” had me by my neck. At first I had a few friends, let’s say
two or three. I became friends with some
of them ‘cause we had something or some things in common while the others were
people I admired.
Hmm
I spent most of my time “analyzing” the others, Noticing, Watching... Just
there In the shadows running my “character analysis” and trying to see how each
person would fit into my “story”.
STAGE VOICE: But you got close to people or
let's say someone in particular?
DAVID:Yess I got close to a few of them
I
call them “my Gees”
STAGE VOICE:Hmmm ,any female "gees"?
DAVID:Ehnehnnau.
STAGE VOICE: You no go like gist us?
DAVID: Gist no Dey boss?
Them
be my guys.
STAGE VOICE: Lol! you get coconut head.
I want to believe that you have a spec.
DAVID: Actuallyπ
Definitely!
STAGE VOICE: Would you like to describe her?
DAVID:Okayyy.
Beautiful (it’s essential)
Smart, supportive,God fearing or who God dey fearπ. I don’t have any
height preference tbh. Size? Idk I like meat so YEAHπ€©, Must smell good!
Good smell! Jesus, I simply cannot overemphasize this! It’s so important!
That’s all I can think of for now.
STAGE VOICE: "sips cold water" welldone boss.
So what do you like most about the department?
DAVID: Hmm, hard pick.
I
guess it’s the fact that it gives me a chance to actually Work and ENJOY
working. The fact that I’m learning and having fun at the same time.
STAGE VOICE: Wow...and the worst?
DAVID: Time consumption!
It
doesn’t give me enough time to do other things I love.
STAGE VOICE: Anybody you look up to? I mean in
the department.
DAVID: Has to be Marvelous
STAGE VOICE: Marvelous? Who is marvellous?
DAVID: Edema Marvelous is my classmate and friend.
A
vibrant young lad that goes all out for what he believes in.
He
is talented,dedicated and trustworthy.
STAGE VOICE: That's wonderful I hope he knows it
too.
DAVID: Oh yes he does.
STAGE VOICE: Nicer!
you
are fun to talk to and it was nice meeting you.
Any special shout outs?
DAVID: My pleasureπ
Yess! Shoutout to my OG Tinana Money! You’re a real
one! I see you and you’re built for greatness. God bless you and everything you
do.
